The Spinning Top
On the Spinning Top there are three kinds of magic users, The Gardener, the Wizards and the Witches. The Gardeners were from a tribe called Raipur. They being the least know of the three enjoyed a very laid back existence in the floating mountains. The Wizards lived in the very biggest city on the top. They were generally lazy but at the same time very excitable, you did not want to pick a fight with a wizard. The last kind was the Witches or Shamans. They perform pretty much the same kind of magic to the wizards but and live in much more rural places. Instead of trying to meditate on the meaning of life the universe and everything prefer to help the peasants with their everyday problems, or at least most of them do. Some people would argue that priests are also magic users until the wizards pointed out that all priests do is ask the gods to send down a lighting bolt and hope that that the gods are in a good mood. Our story beginners in the city of Bruwerstrat, the capital of Dentyne. It was the beginning of the New Year at the Academy of Wizards and Chancellor Taise, the most influential wizard on the top, had his hands full. Checking and double checking every thing. Taise hurried off to the library, his cloak bellowing behind him. He liked this cloak. It was big and a very dark blue. It made him look big and powerful. When he arrived he looked around for the librarian. “Taise there you are!” Taise jumped and turned around him to see the face of the librarian. The librarian was a goblin who treasured the books in the library as much as the rest of his kind treasured their gold making him the perfect candidate for the job. “You called.” said Taise. The goblin grinned showing several pointed teeth. “I want you to strengthen a few charms for me.” The goblin replied. “Yes, yes.” said Taise waving his hand. Sparks shot out of it. “Thanks.” mumbled the goblin. With out answering Taise swept out of the room. He checked the clock on the wall, he had half an hour. Deciding to go clean up he put his hand flat agenised the wall and the bricks folded back. He went in and started walking up the stairs to his door. He had hidden his door in this fashion because a few years back a few students had snuck into his room and charmed his bed to through anybody who lay in it ten feet into the air. This was quite unpleasant due to the fact that his roof was only 9.5 feet high. When he arrived he was greeted by his cat Saddlepus. Wizards liked cats. They, like the other magic users could see past the line of reality. The only other creatures that had this gift were the ants and only the Gardeners bothered with them. He shivered, “The Gardeners.” Pushing the thought back from his mind he busied himself preparing his entrance. He looked at the clock. It was almost time, 5, 4,3,2,1… He waved his hand again and a door appeared. He stepped in and in front of him. He entered. His eyes skimmed the hall. He was very pleased to see that the first years had terrified looks on their faces. He sat down and started eating “Theenth like a good buth of studanth this year.” said the elderly history professor. “They look delicious.” hissed someone at Taise elbow. He turned to see the white face of the crypt manager. ”I think that I am going to have some fun with these kids. Its one of the only things that I look forward to these days.” “I think that its time that we hurry of to bed now. Big day and all that.” said Taise “Or coffins.” Hissed the crypt manager.” “Yes or coffins.” **************** Far away in the high floating mountains a man was sprinting as fast as he possibly could, towards a house on the hill. He opened the door and ran down a corridor. He then opened another door and went down the steps. At the bottom of the steps there was a big wooden door that had been petrified with age. The messenger took a deep breath, and opened the door. Behind it there was a room, and in there was a desk and chair and on the chair was a man stooping over the desk. “Sir. It is happening again sir.” “Yes I have noticed.” Rasped a voice from the chair. “Oh.” Said the messenger a bit put out. “It last happened 5000 years ago. The only thing to do is to wait and hope that “But sir won’t the wizar-” “Cause they will.” “Oh. Is that a problem?” “Like I said all we have to do is wait. Haven’t you been listening?” “Sorry sir.” “Thank you.” “What. Oh yes. Thank you sir.” The messenger scurried off. The voice at the chair sighed. It was all good and proper being head of the Gardeners but sometimes it was just dealing with imbeciles and idiots. ************************** Taise sat down at the table. He was a big man. Not really fat but big. He was tall and powerfully built. The wizards for centuries have usually had made sure that their leaders have been big impressive men. He reached towards a hard boiled egg and cracked it open. A horrible smell escaped the egg. “A rotten egg!! At my table!!” screamed Taise “I-I don’t understand.” Stuttered one of the servers “One of the hens laid that egg this morning.” At that moment a young man that strangely resembled the history professor strolled down the steps and into the staff dinning hall. “N-Nikolas.” Now it was Taise’s turn to start stuttering “W-what happened to you?” “Beats me.” Laughed the now 25 year old history professor. Taise looked down at his bacon which was reforming into what looked like a pigs shoulder. Taise picked it up and threw it across the hall. “What did you that Taise?” The crypt manager had arrived. (He never really ate with them but he figured that it made him seem more normal.) “Do what.” The bacon was now running around the hall in circles and his piece of toast was getting mouldy. “Emergency meeting right now!!” said Taise as he stood up. He didn't have much choice on the matter as the chair that he was sitting on collapsed underneath him.
If you like it I will put up a updated edition every now and then.
